Just yesterday, in an exclusive, we broke this news of Hyundai preparing new i20 ‘Cross’ with our readers and today we share with you many new exclusive spy pics of the car which was spied under tests in Vellore at Chennai-Bengaluru highway.
These pics are shared by our reader Mohamed Shahid Hussain and are in continuation to the one that we broke the news with. Like we said yesterday, this car is in addition to the ix25 compact SUV that was snapped testing a few days back.
With the i20 Cross, it appears Hyundai intends to slug it out against the crossover hatchbacks like the Avventura, Cross Polo and smaller compact SUVs like EcoSport. And with the bigger ix25 they will fight Duster, Terranos and others.
i20 Cross Changes
Here is a list of changes that we can observe from these pictures
- Roof rails
- new Alloy wheels
- Bigger tyres (possible)
- Slightly higher ground clearance (Looks like it)
- Plastic cladding on wheel arches
- Plastic cladding on the sides
Since the car is hidden from the front, sides and rear, we can not really be sure of the changes beneath that black veil. As has been the trend, there may be a few minor cosmetic changes to the face. Engine options of 1.2L (and/or 1.4L petrol) as well as the 1.4L crdi diesel are expected to be carried over. Hyundai may also consider launching an automatic version to go a step ahead against Avventuras and Etios Cross’.
Interestingly, this trend of crossover hatchbacks is gaining popularity, not only in India but in a few other countries as well. It remains to be seen, how would people react to a crossover hatchback from Hyundai, which may be priced at a premium than others…
