Ford’s upcoming 5-door hatchback has been seen and photographed somewhere in the metropolitan area of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. The photographs and the related article appeared in a Portuguese language publication Autossegredos.com.br.
The same car has been earmarked by Ford for introduction here in India in its (compact) sedan form which they unveiled recently in India under the ‘Figo’ name plate. We are almost sure that even this hatchback will come to India to either replace the current Figo or be placed in its product portfolio a rung above the current Figo. It is also known as ‘Ka’ in international markets.
The photographs, apparently taken while overtaking the Ford Ka, gives a good view of the car, and surprisingly, this production model is hardly different from the Global Ka concept unveiled November last. This gives us a hint that even the Figo Concept sedan unveiled in India may continue with a similar design (with a boot) with very limited changes.
The 5-door Figo hatch is expected in India with the eagerly anticipated 1.0-liter EcoBoost petrol apart from a diesel motor. The Brazilian publication estimates the launch of the Ford Ka sometime around the FIFA World Cup scheduled to kick-off in the country in June 2014. For us, here in India, the launch, however may spill over to the end of this year or sometime next year.
The new Figo sedan will be manufactured out of Ford’s Gujarat plant and this new Ka/next-gen Figo will also follow suit for sure.
