Baleno Teased With Hints of Turbocharged 1.0L Boosterjet Engine; Will be Sold Through Nexa

YRA, as a lot of you may know it, is Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming premium hatchback for the Indian market. It will be placed over Swift and will rival the fantastic-looker Elite i20 along with Polo and a few others. Yeaa yeaa…we know you know this…

In an update, it has been confirmed that the international trade name ‘Baleno’ will continue to be the official name of the car in India as well. There were a few apprehensions earlier if Maruti will re-invent this name for our market.

Apart from this, a few Nexa dealership websites have started flashing “All New Baleno Coming Soon” which confirms that Maruti will sell the new car from the premium and exclusive Nexa dealerships in India. This may not be a good idea according to us as it will limit the distribution of Baleno, but Maruti has to consolidate its ‘Nexa’ brand of dealerships as well. In a workaround, Maruti may consider offering it in its regular dealerships as well wherever Nexa is not present.

Now, interestingly, Bangalore Nexa dealer has mentioned this –

The premium hatchback is ready to hit the roads. This spacious and luxurious hatchback is powered with an unbeatable engine. Hold your breath and drive your dream car like never before!

The 1.2 L or even the 1.4 L K-Series petrol engines are not ‘unbeatable’ by any standards and nor should the 1.3 Liter DDIS (even in 90 PS Trim) be called something like this. This takes us to the new 1.0L Boosterjet Turbocharged petrol motor which is officially confirmed for the international markets but speculations of it NOT coming to India upon launch are strong.

Does this mean Maruti will go all guns blazing? Will the Boosterjet motor find its way onto the Indian Baleno upon launch which is scheduled for October (some say 26th is the date!)?
