BMW’s Answer: 1-Series Hatchback Coming to India This Year

Barely a few minutes back we have published a news snippet about Mercedes’ plans to launch their most affordable car in India – A-Class hatchback. And now, we have a news coming in from the rival BMW camp.

According to Telegraph India, BMW is getting ready to launch their smallest 1-Series hatchback in India and that too this year itself. The car will be brought down as CKDs (Completely Knocked Down Units) and will be assembled here at BMW’s Chennai plant.

BMW-1-Series

BMW India President Philipp von Sahr also revealed that the car will be competitively priced and all the variants will come through the CKD route.

1-Series is a rear wheel drive car which gets a 1.6L petrol motor in various tunes ranging from 102 bhp to 170bhp. A 2.0L diesel motor does duty which also has different tunes from 116bhp to 218bhp. We expect the lower tune engine options to make way into India with a few higher powered ones a little later.

This 1-Series will go bang on against the upcoming Mercedes A-Class and a similar price point is expected for both the cars. 1-Series will definitely help BMW further consolidate its numer uno position in the Indian luxury car space. And we all are set to witness a real big fist fight between these two cars.
