Maruti Suzuki continues to be the good samaritan and after Swift and Dzire, they have now introduced basic safety features in the lesser variants of Celerio as well. Celerio now gains dual front airbags and ABS in all variants as an optional extra. The company also went on to extend the availability of Auto Gear Shift (AGS), which is popularly known as AMT, to the base LXi variant.
So far Celerio AMT was on offer only on the VXI variant. This step will make the affordability of the AMT equipped Celerio lower and hence more customers are expected to join the automatic bandwagon. The car has been a success right from day one when it was launched at the 2014 Auto Expo and so far Maruti has sold more than 1.3 lakh units of Celerio across India.
Mr R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India said…
“Through Celerio we have always tried to offer the best to customers. By offering safety features like airbags for driver and co-driver, and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) from the base variant onwards in Celerio, we are making it more attractive for customers. I am happy that we are able to offer these safety features on Celerio much ahead of regulations.”
Celerio is the only hatchback in its segment to come in three fuel options of petrol, diesel and CNG. Tata’s upcoming Zica will compete against the Celerio directly.

*all prices ex-showroom Delhi. The Green (CNG) VXi (O) variant will be available only with dual front airbags. The company is charging approximately Rs 20,000 over the price of the regular variants for the added safety equipment.
Maruti is slowly upping the ante and is presenting options for customers. Its our prerogative now to consider buying only the airbag/ABS equipped optional variants instead of the more luring higher variants (which offer more features without safety), if our budget is limited.
