Datsun’s Version of Kwid – ‘I2’ Small Car Launch by March

Post the small entry level hatchback Go, Datsun at the Auto Expo last year showcased a brilliant looking concept of an even cheaper car, the Redi Go. The car is expected to be the Japanese sister of the French Renault Kwid and as per a recent report on Economics Times, Arun Malhotra, Nissan India’s supremo has confirmed that it will hit the road by March 2016! That’s more than a year sooner than its original plan!

This though does not come as a major surprise. With the Renault Kwid ready and expected to be launched later this year and Datsun’s slow round of sales in the country, the budget brand does need a push and Redigo does have those ‘interest’ levels to lure buyers. The Redi-Go (I2), which will be Datsun’s third car in India is expected to be identical to Kwid in terms of major internals but the external appearance may end up being different to prevent cannibalization with each other. We expect the company to provide power steering in the mid-variants as well, which has NOT been the case with Go and Go+ till now!

Expect the company to showcase the production variant of the car at the Auto Expo next year, followed by its official launch and it may end up being a 2-3 Lakh product. Sounds real luring!

Datsun also has massive expansion plans in the country. Nissan, Datsun’s parent company, plans to increase the number of exclusive Datsun dealerships from 21 to 60 by 2016. This will also include dealerships in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where small cars are always in high demand.

Datsun has very recently introduced the Go and Go+ with driver side airbags.
