De-Glam “W4” Variant of Mahindra XUV5OO Ready For Launch; Feature Sheet Busted!

Thanks to Indianautosblog.com, it is now known that the lower-priced “W4” variant of Mahindra XUV5oo is ready for launch. The Indian tractors-to-SUVs manufacturer could launch this specific variant within a few weeks’ time.Blame it on the long drawn-out gloomy phase that the economy has been witnessing in general! Sales have tapered off, and margins have dipped. To give them a nudge in the proper direction, the “W4”  variant of XUV500 arrives from Mahindra’s stables. An even more vicious problem that Mahindra has been staring at is the intrusion of competitors to its market share territory. Tiny Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano are a few of them and there are hoards of them ringing bells…

Hence, the “W4” variant is essentially a price-cut variant of the Cheetah that misses out on equipment and hence will retail at a lower price tag. Mahindra believes that this lowering in prices without any cutback in the stylish-and-muscular appeal of the XUV500 will help in drawing customers to their showrooms. In its heydays, the XUV500 was able to sell around 3,500 units per month. However, it has to contend with around 2,000 units per month in these intense competition times.

Features that continue in the W4 variant :

• 2.2 L Diesel Powerplant with vital statistics of 140 bhp / 330 Nm
• Six Speed Transmission
• Start-Stop system
• Dual Airbags
• ABS and EBD

Features that the W4 will miss out :

• 6-inch touchscreen infotainment display with DVD player
• Tyre pressure sensor and Parking assistant
• Rain sensing wipers and Light sensing headlamps
• Telescopic steering
• Fully-automatic temperature control and Power-folding side mirrors
• Premium fabric upholstery and  Multi-function steering wheel
• Cruise control
• Camping lamp, Puddle lamps and Door-ajar lamps

Mahindra has even said goodbye to the illuminated key ring. Touche!!

Currently, the XUV500 is priced in between 12.01 lakhs – 14.64 lakhs INR ( ex-showroom Delhi ). We aren’t exactly sure of the price difference that the “W4” variant will give rise to. But looking at the feature slashes, it appears that we may see a 10.99 Lakh price tag for the entry W4 variant.

W4 variant will lure people to move up and target customers who are a little concerned about niggling problems in electricals of Mahindra. A bare basic variant with almost all the required features and a real good engine, W4 will be for them. Launch may happen within this month.
