Diesel Brio Sedan Coming in April 2013?

Just as we stopped writing about Brio Automatic’s entry in India in October, we have landed upon a very impressive related news snippet.

BS Motoring has reported that Honda would launch the Brio based compact sedan in India in April 2013. The better news is that it would be diesel powered! Now, if we list the list of future events from Honda’s stables, they look something like this:

  1. Honda Brio Automatic : Mid-October 2012
  2. Honda City CNG: Oct-Nov 2012
  3. Brio sedan diesel & Petrol: April 2013
  4. Brio diesel hatch: sometime later
  5. New CR-V, Accord and Civic : Sometime from now to next year

Though there is not much known about the engine specifications of this diesel engine, we believe this could be a 1.2L motor based on the already existing (internationally) 1.6L i-DTEC diesel engine. Whatever the engine size be, it would mark Honda’s entry into the diesel space in India which is guaranteed to get a grand welcome.

This diesel motor would definitely be spanned across the range in Jazz, City. We also expect the 1.6L i-DTEC diesel engine to feature on next generation Civic, Accord and CR-V, not now, but definitely sometime in future. The next generation CR-V is already caught testing on India soil a few days back but it would only be available in petrol for now.

The pictures you see here are speculative renderings of Brio Sedan and not the actual product. Brio sedan is expected to be a sub 4 meter car which would go head-on against Dzire, Indigo CS and the upcoming Verito CS.
