Ford launched EcoSport, their first compact SUV in India in June 2013 at shocking starting price tag of Rs 5.59 Lakhs, which has been getting upward revisions with time. It was an instant hit with waiting periods of some models ranging upto 9 odd months in some cities. Ford intentionally kept the supply to the domestic market low is another point of discussion but the fact is – EcoSport was a runaway success but with the recent launches in the compact SUV segment, Creta, S-Cross and the advent of the cross hatchbacks and a direct rival like TUV300, EcoSport has taken the plunge, which is obvious as well.
Just for reference, Ford sold 18,377 units of EcoSport in this financial year (Apr to Aug 2015) as compared to 23,511 units in the same period last year, a drop of almost 28 percent.
To keep things ticking, Ford has, for the first time, announced discounts and offers on their largest selling model. In its celebration of 2 Lakh unit sales (worldwide), the company is offering assured freebies which include household stuff like refrigerators, TVs, Microwaves etc or a cash discount of Rs 12,500. Apart from that, you can also get an exchange bonus of upto Rs 25,000 for Ford cars and Rs 18,000 for non-Ford cars.
This offer, Ford says, is valid for cars booked between 11th to 13th September and for which complete payment is made on or before 30th September. However, we believe the trend will continue and Ford will continue/increase/decrease such offers under different marketing names.
So, if you have been considering buying one, this is your best time…however, do also remember that the EcoSport facelift is also on the anvil…
