Endeavour in 3rd Gen Avatar launched by Ford India for Rs 23.64 lakhs

Just ahead of the Auto Expo Ford has announced its offence against the likes of the Fortuner, Trailblazer and Pajero Sport with the launch of their prodigal son, the third generation Endeavour. Carrying an attractive price tag of Rs 23.64 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), Ford means full business.

The new Endeavour gets styled in Ford’s new design language which moves ahead from the boxy looks of the previous generation. This includes a humongous trapezoidal grille and an equally challenging skid plate which houses the fog lamps.The head lamps sport projectors and LED daytime running lights. The rear profile of the 7 seater SUV gets huge tail lamps with a chrome band carrying the Endeavour branding. The SUV will be assembled at their integrated manufacturing facility in Chennai.

Powering the new generation Endeavour is a set of modern diesel engines. This includes:

  • Replacing the older 2.5 litre mill is the new 2.2 litre TDCi 4 pot mill with 160 PS of power at 3,200 rpm and 385 Nm of torque in the range of 1,600 to 2,500 rpm. The older version had 143 PS and 330 Nm. This also gets a new 6 speed manual transmission with a 4×2 and 4×4 drive and a 6 speed automatic unit with 4×2 drive. The manual version returns 14.12 kmpl and 12.62 kmpl in the automatic version.

  • The second new mill is the larger 3.2 litre TDCi 5 cylinder mill with 200 PS of maximum power at 3,000 rpm and 470 Nm of peak torque at 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. This one gets only a 6 speed automatic transmission with 4×4 drive. The older 3.0 litre mill had 156 PS and 380 Nm of power and torque respectively. The fuel economy is rated at 10.91 kmpl.

The SUV measures 4,892 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,837 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,850 mm and has a ground clearance of 225 mm. The fuel tank capacity is a respectable 80 litre and boasts of a tyre profile of 265/60 R18 with alloy wheels in all variants.

In terms of safety the third generation Endeavour gets dual front airbags, side airbags, curtain and driver knee airbags with ABS, EBD, ESP, traction control system and hill launch assist as standard in all variants. The 4×4 variants also gain hill descent control. It also claims to be capable of wading through 800 mm of water. Ford has even brought in a new Terrain Management System with separate modes for sand, snow/mud and rock.

The company has also worked on cabin noise with Active Noise Cancellation which uses three highly sensitive microphones to detect and measure engine noise and cancel it with opposing sound waves. The power tailgate opens and closes at the touch of a button while the third row of seats can be electronically folded fully flat with a 50/50 split. The second row gets 60/40 split.

The SUV will be available in six paint schemes:

  • Sunset Red
  • Golden Bronze
  • Moondust Silver
  • Panther Black
  • Diamond White
  • Smoke Grey
