FASTag: No Need to Stop at Highway Toll Booths Now – Pay Electronically

FASTag will allow you to pay tolls electronically and will save your time and fuel…

Toll booths on highways are one of the most sure shot ways of slowing you down. One moment you are cruising at 100 kmph and the very next you have to come to a standstill and wait in a slow queue to pay toll. All this is going to change right from Monday! Yes, you are not dreaming!

National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is set to introduce electronic toll collection on toll plazas in national highways. This programme is being called FASTag. Using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag stuck on the windscreen of a vehicle, the toll plaza can electronically charge you money.

Providing near non stop movement, FASTag will help in reducing pollution along with the hassles of paying cash at tolls. One can recharge FASTag online using credit/debit card NEFT/RTGS or net banking. The tag itself can be bought at selected toll plazas after a payment of Rs 200 and a refundable security deposit depending on the vehicle. Do remember to carry a passport size photograph, RC of the vehicle, an ID proof and an address proof.

Customers will be provided SMS updates after every transaction and low balance. The minimum recharge will be of Rs 100 and maximum can go up to Rs 1 lakh (for commercial vehicles). The FASTag will have a validity of 5 years and the authorities are also planning to bring it to state highways. At present it will be valid in more than 240 toll plazas across the country.

Now, that’s development and if implemented with caution, it can save tons of fuel and time!
