Fiat Linea Facelift Bookings open; Launch early next month

Fiat unveiled the 2014 version of its charming C-segmenter at the Auto Expo with the launch scheduled for next month of March. And in a latest update, Fiat has, through its official Facebook page, announced that the bookings of the car have been officially opened.

You can deposit a sum of INR 25,000 and book one for yourself.

The 2014 Linea comes with new exterior looks, refreshed interiors and a higher feature list. It gets cruise control, USB + Aux-In and Bluetooth streaming, reverse parking sensors, and an all-new dashboard. Surprisingly, against all their claims, the powerplants remain the same, which means there is NO 1.6L Multijet as promised.

If, for some reason, you had a heart out for the current, shall we say, pre-2014 Linea, you can still have it. Fiat is calling it the Linea Classic and the cheapest one goes for about INR 6.0 lacs for the Classic Petrol.

Coming back to the 2014 Linea, outwardly, it gets a restyled front bumper with new inserts for foglamps. The new dual parabola headlamps add character along with more chrome garnishing on the front air dam. The boot also gets just the right amount of chrome as well as it now nestles the registration number plate, which used to be on rear bumper.

The top-of-the-line variant of Linea facelift will be a pretty loaded car for a C-segmenter and will make life difficult for the likes of Hyundai Verna, new Honda City and a few others in the segment (or will it?)

On the inside, new Linea gets more exaggerated premium-ness to it. Not too much, mind you, just the right amount. The dual tone dash, leather, and the petting of chrome do their job well without making you feel cheesy.

The choice; or lack of, a more powerful engine might prove to be a cause of some chagrin among some. The 2014 Linea keeps the 1.3-liter Multijet Diesel and the 1.4-liter T-JET Petrol. Rather good engines they are too, mind you, but the official confirmation of 2014 Linea facelift getting the 1.6-liter multi-jet diesel has been thrown in the dustbin! On the other hand, the turbocharged 1.4L petrol will be the one traffic-light dragstars will love to own!

We contacted a local dealership in Pune to gather more details and here is what the salesperson informed us.

  • Minimum Booking Amount: Rs 25,000
  • Launch Soon
  • Will come with higher set of features. Even the base variant will be fairly loaded
  • Bookings opened a couple of days back
  • They had 12 confirmed bookings till yesterday

Linea, in its 2014 guise, looks like a plusher and graceful ride, which complements adequately its enhanced lineaments. Fiat’s breaking of promise is a heartbreaker for sure, but otherwise, with an expected competitive price tag the Linea facelift appears to be a fairly good competition in the segment, specially the Turbo-petrol!
