Figo Aspire to Get Automatic Transmission in 1.5L Petrol Engine

There have been two developments simultaneously. One was when an automatic Figo test mule was spotted which sparked the confusion – “which engine was it running – 1.2L or 1.5L petrol?” and the second one was when Ford officially announced that Figo Aspire will come equipped with two engine options 1.5L TDCI diesel and 1.2L TiVCT petrol.

However, Autocar seems to have cleared the air and they say that there will be a third engine option to the list which will be the 1.5L TiVCT petrol motor which will come equipped with an automatic transmission, just like EcoSport.

The 1.2L petrol motor is expected to go through tons of betterments (it needs many) and a power boost to about 80 odd bhp. Autocar also says that the diesel motor on the compact sedan may also offer better power figures, upto 100 bhp and a increment in fuel efficiency at the same time.

Ford has ruled out the 1.0L EcoBoost from both the new Figo twins citing high cost reasons, a step which we feel is a clear ‘missed opportunity‘!

Both, the new Figo Aspire compact sedan and the next-gen Figo will be produced from Ford’s newly inaugurated Sanand plant in Gujarat. While the Aspire is expected to be launched around June this year, Figo hatchback is expected to come later, sometime during the festive season. Let us hope both the cars are well-priced, like the initial EcoSport!
