Force Gurkha Off-Roader to Get New 2.2L Engine; May Churn Out XUV-Rivaling Power

New report claims two BS4 diesel engines for Force Gurkha – Current 2.6L & New 2.2L FMTECH!

Now this is getting real interesting! We love Force Gurkha for its off-road prowess and it easily is the best off-roader in town, Mahindra Thar included. However, it has a few flaws which need ironing out and we know Force is working on them…

At the moment, Gurkha’s sales are limited to the smaller cities only since it is powered by a BS3-Compliant OM616 diesel engine which churns out 82PS of peak power. Force is working on a BS4 version of the same engine which will allow the company to sell it all over the country.

Now, the bigger news is this – according to Autocar India, Force will also launch the Gurkha with the 2.2 Liter FMTECH diesel engine which is also sourced from Mercedes and powers their One Suv at the moment. This engine is also a BS4-compliant motor and churns out 140 hp of power and a torque output of 321 Nm which is in the ballpark of XUVs and Safari Stormes!

We believe there may a little detuning for the Gurkha but despite that, this is a lot of power and Force will need to work on the dynamics of the off-roader since they are not very sorted on the roads! The bigger issue is the price which, in all probability, will breach the 10 lakh mark making it a costly preposition!
