There are three most important segments in India which are seeing a lot of hulchul! One of them is the compact SUVs, the second is the compact sedans and the third of them is the 7-seater MPV segment.
Ford has taken care of the compact SUV segment and in style by launching the EcoSport which has taken the country by storm. They are in the process of filling the gap with the introduction of the sub 4 meter compact Sedan, Figo Concept which will be launched in 2015.
For the last of the lot, there was no update from the company, however, according to a report on Overdrive.in, Ford is indeed working on an MPV and the most important bit coming from them is that it will be based on the Figo concept.
Moreover, reportedly, it will not be another of those boring people carriers which look like a goose from whichever angle you see them! I know it is almost a crime in journalistic parlance to use ‘MPV’ and the word ‘beautiful’ in the same sentence but going by the report, Ford’s MPV may buck the trend and be indeed, beautiful considering its underpinning, the stylish Figo concept.
Now, the next question is, will the MPV be a sub 4 meter car? We do not know and in fact we do not expect Ford to squeeze it into such smaller dimensions! Ford will have the options of choosing between the 1.5L petrol and diesel engines from the Fiesta and the 1.0L Ecoboost turbocharged motor from EcoSport!
However, Ford’s Figo MPV is not coming anytime soon. According to the report, it will be launched in India sometime in 2016, which is when it will have a lot of players to compete with.
