Honda Doesn’t Produce a Single Unit of Mobilio in Oct; Sales Reduced to Less Than Half

Honda’s Mobilio was expected to be the MPV which can give Maruti’s Ertiga a serious threat. However, Honda went greedy and launched the car at higher-than-deserving prices. We had predicted back then that Mobilio may not be able to sustain any momentum once the initial hype settles down and here we are…

Mobilio is consistently doing under 1000 units every month and for the month of September 2015, it registered total sales of 643 units, its worst ever. Last month sales improved marginally, however, due to the backlog at dealerships, Honda did not produce a single unit of Mobilio, according to the official SIAM sales & production data we have with us.

Honda-Mobilio-Falling-Sales

In terms of cumulative numbers, Mobilio’s sales have reduced to a fraction of what they were during the first seven months of the year. In absolute numbers, Mobilio registered 6201 unit sales during April-October 2015 as compared to 17,209 units during the same period last year.

Ertiga continues its dream run with consistent over-5000 units for the last many months (apart from Aug & Sep 2015 which was most probably due to the stoppage of production of the older model). Renault Lodgy, which was launched with a lot of promise has also fizzled out and has registered total sales of only 300 units (in October 2015).

On the other hand, all the cars that have been launched recently at attractive and sense-making prices have done particularly well, Creta being an exception (but again it is very new!). This should serve as a reminder to those manufacturers who overprice their cars and then try to offer discounts to lure customers into their showrooms…
