Honda Officially Unveils India Bound ‘VEZEL’ Compact SUV; Pics & Details

As planned and reported earlier, Honda has unveiled its compact SUV at the Tokyo Motor Show and it is called VEZEL (and not CR-U!). And the crossover C-segmenters like the Dusters, EcoSports and Terranos need not start worrying yet because it will be quite some time before Honda decides to bring it to India.

The Weasel…oops! I knew something was wrong with that name, the Vezel, name not withstanding, is a one purposeful looking softroader. It looks masculine and aggressive and for once it will deceive you into thinking that it was a two-door coupe.

Honda will share more details of Vezel on 19th December and the day after ie 20th December, it will go on sale in the home nation Japan. In Japan, Honda will launch Vezel in both Hybrid and petrol-only options. The petrol is the 1.5 litre motor which we feel is the same i-VTEC from the current City.

There is no diesel engine mentioned but it will be present on the Indian version. Yes, Vezel, when it comes to India will also get the 1.5L i-DTEC motor from Amaze and other cars. Vezel also comes with a choice of 2WD and 4WD.

The driving seat and ergonomic, Honda claims, will give you the feeling of driving a coupe. The interiors also feature foldable rear seats aiding the Vezel in increasing its luggage carrying capacity.

It is a belated but commendable effort by Honda to mark its presence in the high-growth compact SUV segment. The Vezel is based on the Honda Jazz and before the introduction of Vezel in India, Honda would like to gauge how well the demanding Indian consumer receive the Jazz, which is expected to be unveiled during the upcoming Auto Expo, Dehli, this coming February.
