Hyundai Elite i20 gets 12,000 bookings in 15 days!

Hyundai’s latest offering in India, the Elite i20 has managed to get 12,000 bookings in just 15 days. The figure appears more commendable when one considers the tough competition the i20 has in the form of the Polo facelift, Punto EVO, and also the ever-popular Swift.

The older i20 was doing okay for Hyundai but the company did not wait for the sales figures to drop alarmingly before bringing in the next generation of the car. So while the older car already had good interiors and class-leading features and equipment, the Elite i20 takes it another level and again sets the benchmark in those aspects. Also, we had liked the new exterior of the Elite i20 ever since the first undisguised pictures surfaced on the web, and the good number of bookings tells us that the prospective customers are appreciating the muscular and bolder look too.

Though we have not driven the car yet and cannot comment on the new car’s suspension settings, fellow journalists, who have driven it, have noticed that the ride and handling has indeed become better than the outgoing car. Our readers would know that this is something (better handling) we had predicted much earlier.

The car now comes with only two engines as the 1.4-litre petrol engine, the only automatic in the range, has been axed by Hyundai. The 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel have been retained in the Elite i20 and there are four variants on offer (each in petrol and diesel). The prices for the petrol i20 start at INR 4.89 lakh and go upto INR 6.46 lakh while those of the diesel range between INR 6.09-7.66 lakh.
