What you see on this page can easily lead you to believe that this is some kind of a Polo but it is NOT! These test prototypes reveal Skoda’s next-gen Fabia in almost totality.
What we see is a much sharper and striking design and that butterfly grille definitely has made things look pleasant at Skoda’s stables. This will be the third-generation of Fabia which will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show later this year.
From these spyshots courtesy Autoevolution.com, the size appears to be the same, but we can notice an enhanced wheelbase which should be increasing the interior space. By looking at the elegant headlamp and the overall front, you can easily predict this is some ‘Volkswagen’ car.
It also borrows a lot of cues from the international Skoda Rapid but for some reason looks awkward from the rear because of that little protruding trunk-like line. We believe it may just be camouflage which is hindering the real mass which lies inside.
New Fabia will continue to use the existing PQ24 platform against the earlier speculation of it getting the MQB platform for cost effectiveness. Skoda India’s CEO, Sudhir Rao, has already confirmed the new Fabia for India which will be its relaunch since they discontinued the older model last year.
Engine options are expected to be carried over from the new Polo and we definitely expect the 1.2L TSI and the new 1.5L TDI diesel engine to make way. Launch here in India is expected sometime next year. Skoda is also planning to launch a new Rapid facelift, which will be engineered for the first time in India.
