The world’s largest passenger car seller Toyota has finally unveiled the new generation Innova at the ongoing Delhi Auto Expo. Called as the Innova Crysta, the MPV emerges in a premium avatar with a new powertrain and gearbox. Aiming to be a benchmark in luxury, comfort and toughness, the new vehicle has a rich lineage to live up to, especially because the Innova in its present form has been the country’s No. 1 MPV for 11 years despite the price tag which is atrocious in our opinion!
Innova Crysta Engine
Innova Crysta comes with an all-new 2.4 litre diesel mill which despite losing slightly on displacement gains significantly in terms of output. Toyota has not officially confirmed the specifications yet, but we expect it to be on the same lines as the one seen in Indonesia. Back there it produces 149 PS of power and 342 Nm of torque with a 5 speed manual transmission. A new introduction has the addition of an automatic version which gets 6 cogs and produces the same power output with 360 Nm of torque.
Built on the IMV (Innovative Multi-purpose Vehicle) platform, the Innova Crysta is bigger than the existing version in length, width and height despite possessing the same wheelbase. The frame has been developed from scratch for increased safety and it gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist standard in all variants.
Other features include automatic climate control with rear auto cooler, 7 inch audio system with Navigation, cruise control, power driver seat, one touch tumble for 2nd and 3rd row, smart entry system with Start/Stop button, 17 inch alloy wheels and easy close back door. Although a specific launch date has not been announced, Toyota India has confirmed that Innova Crysta will hit the roads within this year at an expected placement of over the current Innova.
