Intel to Launch Infotainment Systems for Cars

Intel Corporation is looking forward to Indian car makers to introduce its new system `in-vehicle infotainment’ (IVI) in passenger cars.

The name ‘In-Vehicle Infotainment’ itself defines itself as a combination of information and entertainment. The IVI is a dual display system which will have two screens on dashboard, one for the driver and the other for passenger. The touch screen on the dashboard interfaces with the driver information system (DIS) navigation.

Various features available in IVI are :

  • Navigation or driving information accessible to driver
  • Movies, songs, etc download access to passengers
  • Other state-of-the-art functions and services such as voice recognition, Smartphone remote start, stolen vehicle location tracking as well as access to the Internet

B Suryanarayanan, Director, Sales (South), Intel South Asia reported that they are not sure about the exact availability in India. They are in talk with various automobile companies. Intel had already tied up with Kia Motors Corporation’s K9 luxury sedan to introduce IVI system.
