Jaguar Launches Locally Produced 2014 XJ; Slashes Prices by 24 Lakhs

As has been in the news of late, Jaguar has finally started producing the XJ sedan locally here in India. XJ is Jaguars flagship model and competes against the new Mercedes S Class and Audi A8 L.

Jaguar sells XJ in two engine options in India, a 2.0L petrol producing 240PS of power and 340Nm of torque and the 3.0L V6 diesel which produces 275 PS of power and a gigantic 600Nm of torque which is there for you to harness at 2000rpm! Only this diesel variant will be locally produced and has the sticker of 92.1lac ex-showroom, Mumbai, pre-octroi. Whereas the petrol remains a complete CBU. Prior to this the CBU XJ 3.0L was priced at 1.16 crore ex-showroom Mumbai.

It must be understood that by local production, we mean assembly in India with kits coming from some other market and its not made here from the scratch. The local assembly will be carried out at the company’s Pune facility which also makes the XF sedan as well as Land Rover Freelander.

Wait there is more to it! There are two variants you can buy the 2014 XJ 3.0 in – Premium Luxury and Portfolio. The more interesting bit here is that, despite the reduction in prices, locally produced XJ gets more equipment and features. It comes with:

  • increased headroom
  • electric rear side window blinds
  • LED reading lights
  • 25.9cm (10.2) rear screens (rear seat entertainment system)
  • new rear business table
  • three massage seat functions

Unlike the German triumvirates, this car oozes the elegance of British luxury, design, and sophistication. The car has one of the most gorgeous and panoramic, heat-reflective, tinted glass roof which extends to the full width of the car and sweeps as far back as the rear seat area, filtering UV rays and flooding the interior with natural light. Deliveries of the car start from June.

This is Jaguar Land Rover’s third car to be locally manufactured in India and surely paves the way for more cars to follow suit, allowing the prices to be reduced and hence, making them more competitive.
