The Jaguar XE’s has finally been unveiled globally at an event in Earls Court in London. In fact, we did bring to you the pics of the display car being carried by a helicopter a day before!

Jaguar claims that the XE is their lightest, stiffest and most aerodynamic saloon ever built! The company also has stated in their press release that it’s also the first Jaguar to be equipped with electric power steering, which is tuned to provide exceptional responsiveness and feel but with lower energy consumption than hydraulic systems. We will refrain to comment on that choice before we test it…

It seems that only top-end XE S variant will hit the global markets first and then the lower variants would follow. As we had told you earlier, the XE S will come with a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that puts out 340 bhp and 450 Nm of torque. All that power is channelized through an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.

Jaguar claims a 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds while the top speed has been electronically-restricted to 250 kmph. The S model can be identified with its larger front air intakes, chrome side vents, rear spoiler and optional 20-inch forged alloy wheels.

The other variants will come with 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines mated either to a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission; we would only get the latter perhaps in India…

The car sits below the XF and XJ saloons and is manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant – you may expect competitive pricing to upset the Germans… Full details of the entire XE range will be announced at the Paris Motorshow in October.
