Mahindra Reveals KUV100 & New 1.2L Petrol & Diesel Engines- Launch on 15th Jan

With the TUV300 already  garnering attention, Mahindra today revealed a new line of engines to power their upcoming sub 4 metre compact SUV which will be called – KUV100 (known as S101 so far). Bookings for the KUV100 will begin from tomorrow that is December 19, 2015 while the car will be officially launched on January 15, 2015 at their Chakan plant.

The KUV100 gets a pair of indigenously developed petrol and diesel mills with design reviews from their Korean partner SsangYong. A total of 18 patents have gone into the development and the cost alone for the engines has been 500 crores. This includes design, development and the manufacturing setup of the engine.

1.2 mFalcon G80 – Petrol

Let’s have a look at the petrol engine first. The 1.2 litre mFalcon D80 all aluminium MPFi produces 82 bhp of maximum power at 5,500 rpm and 114 Nm of peak torque in the range of 3,500 to 3,600 rpm. This BSIV compliant engine packs a bunch of advanced technologies to reduce friction and thereby increasing fuel efficiency.

1.2 mFalcon D75 – Diesel

The 1.2 litre mFalcon D75 turbocharged Common Rail diesel engine produces 77 bhp of maximum power at 3,750 rpm and 190 Nm of torque peaking in the range between 1,750 to 2,250 rpm. The company claims that the engine has high low-end torque, however, no official fuel economy figures were shared.

The KUV100 will be available in 4 variants and ABS is standard across the range while airbags are optional right from the base variant. Here is the variant list…

Mahindra has hinted at a very aggressive price tag and our guesstimate is – KUV100 may start at 3.99 Lakhs ex-showroom. KUV100 will form a new segment below the TUV300 and will rival hatchbacks like WagonR, i10 etc. Impressed?
