Kwid is one of the most important products for Renault in India. On September 24th, they launched it at a shocking price tag sending shivers down the competition. The very competitive pricing was made possible because of ‘almost 100%’ localization levels of the car. Add to that its superb SUV-like design, which shows to the world that entry level cars need not always be boring, Kwid was certain to write history for Renault!
So what has been the result so far? Very exciting indeed! In fact the company has officially announced that the Kwid has reached customer bookings of over 50,000 units! Yes, it’s been just a little more than a month and they already have half a lakh bookings for the car! Now if the killer price tag of the Kwid did not wake up Hyundai/Maruti, this figure better get them back to the drawing boards.
Here’s what Mr Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and Managing Director, Renault India Operations, had to say:
“The growing acceptance by first time buyers indicates that Renault KWID is truly an aspirational product, offering an outstanding value proposition. Together with first time buyers, we are also seeing new consumer trends across urban and rural India.”
Sticking to the promise made, Renault has already started making deliveries of the Kwid so that customers can have a new car this festive season. To meet the growing demand the company has already beefed up production and is taking further steps to enable faster deliveries.
However, from a customer point of view (for the ones who have not booked it yet), you can no more get your car anytime soon as Kwid waiting period has risen to a whopping (upto) 8 months in some cities. We have also heard that Renault has stopped taking bookings of the some variants of the car.
