List of Top 10 Best Selling Cars in India for March 2014

The overall 2013-14 financial year could not be called as one of the good years for the car market in India. Reduction of excise duties in February 2014 did create a hope but did not translate into as many sales volumes.

Nonetheless, there doesn’t appear to be a change in the list of top few best sellers, however there are a few cars that are surprisingly doing great. Here is a list of top 10 best selling cars for March 2014 (Figures Credit – Team-BHP.com).

Top 10 Best-Selling Cars in March 2014:

1. Maruti Suzuki Alto: 25,590 units

No matter which part of the country you are in, you will find Altos in hoards! After the good old Maruti 800, Alto has taken over the reigns and is India’s largest selling car consistently and by a huge margin.

It has been maintaining an average of around 25,000 unit sales every month. There are reports of Maruti working on Alto K10’s facelift which will also get an Automatic (AMT) gearbox.

2. Maruti Suzuki Swift: 19,304 units

For the month of March 2014, it was the smaller sibling which took away the crown of the better seller. Bring any kind of competition, Swift retains its slot in one of the best selling cars and this is consistent month after month, year after year!

Recently, Maruti initiated a recall of Swift & Dzire which included 47000 units of Swift.

3. Maruti Suzuki Dzire: 17,237 units

Dzire has been at the receiving end for the last few months when we talk about increased competition. We have the Amaze which promised a lot of challenge and it is Hyundai’s Xcent which has been the latest thorn. However, like Swift, Dzire has also moved from pillar to post without falling even an inch. There are reports of Maruti launching its facelift of both Swift and Dzire by this year end.

4. Maruti Suzuki WagonR: 14,495 units

So this is the fourth car in this list of top 10 best sellers coming from the home of Maruti-Suzuki. Just goes on to show how strong their hold is on our market. The practical WagonR has almost always been the best seller in the entry B-segment.

We just wonder if Maruti decides to introduce the 7-seater WagonR MPV in India, the one which it unveiled in Indonesia.

5. Mahindra Bolero: 11,294 units

If you think this is a surprise entry, let us bust this myth! Bolero has been a consistent 10,000 per month seller and the best volume car for Mahindra despite its old age. Mahindra has plans to work on an all-new Bolero and suspicious spyshots have surfaced a few weeks back.

6. Hyundai Grand i10: 10,614 units

Hyundai’s Grand i10 has taken over just where the i10 left. It is Hyundai’s new best selling car and with about 10,000 units consistently, it has just ensured Hyundai’s second berth in the country.

There are rumours of Hyundai working on an automatic diesel Grand i10 but so far, there have been no concrete evidence of the same.

7. New Honda City: 9,518 units

The new best selling C2-segment sedan and back to where it belongs, New Honda City is a revelation despite its underspecced diesel engine. It has displaced Hyundai’s Verna in its segment and by a huge margin. Yes, these are initial days and like you, we will also be interested in the figures the new City settles down at.

8. Hyundai Eon: 7,473 units

Hyundai’s smallest offering Eon has also been a consistent 7000 seller. It is Hyundai’s second best selling car in the country and with the new 1.0L more powerful engine, things may just reach 10,000!

9. Honda Amaze: 7,374 units

Customers wanted a Honda diesel, no matter what and it clearly shows in these sales figures. Once the ailing company (because of the lack of diesel) has as many as two models in the top 10 list out of the 4 they currently sell here.

Amaze is one of the most fuel efficient cars in the country.

10. Maruti Suzuki Omni: 6,261 units

And if you thought who buys Omni in these new-age times, these figures will baffle you. But if say, Omni has always been a consistent 5000-7000 per month seller for the company, you may just not believe it! And why not, it is one of the cheapest 5+ people carrier in the country and with that ultra reliable 800cc motor. Maruti does have plans to replace Omni with the Eeco which is getting a diesel engine, but not anytime soon.

So, we have 5 cars from Maruti Suzuki, 2 cars from Hyundai & Honda and 1 car from Mahindra in this list of top 10 best sellers. Do share how many cars surprised you here!
