Mahindra today has introduced Intelli-Hybrid technology in the Scorpio for NCR only 1.99-litre version. The starting price tag stands at Rs 9.35 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Thanks to the hybrid technology, the Scorpio will be sold with a concessional VAT of 5 percent in the national capital, which translates to a benefit of Rs 60,000 to Rs 90,000 for the customer, depending on the variant purchased.
The Intelli-Hybrid technology helps in reducing fuel consumption by up to 7 percent. So how does this happen? Firstly, an electric motor assists the internal combustion engine during initial acceleration. Apart from this it also gets Start-Stop technology which has been seen in the SUV for a long time now under the Micro Hybrid name. This helps in cutting off the engine when the vehicle becomes stationary for 3 second or more. It also gets brake energy regeneration.
The Intelli-Hybrid technology will be available in the following variants of Scorpio with the 1.99-litre mHAWK engine:
- S4
- S4+
- S4+ 4WD
- S6+
- S8
- S10 2WD (Manual)
- S10 4WD (Manual)
The S10 automatic version is not available with the 1.99 litre NCR only engine. It churns of 120 bhp of maximum power at 4,000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque peaking in the range of 1,800 to 2,800 rpm. Post the December judgement of ban on registration of diesel mills with an engine displacement greater than 2,000 cc, Mahindra reduced the size of the engine to 1,997 cc in January.
