We know that Mahindra is working on S101 compact SUV which has been spied many a times earlier. Now, reports of more vehicles on similar platform are coming in via Economic Times, which was, kind of, expected!
Mahindra, together with Ssangyong of South Korea are developing another compact SUV and an MPV. The compact SUV, codenamed S102, will be positioned to compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.
The compact SUV segment has been witnessing hectic developments in the country. This new compact SUV is based on Ssangyong’s X100 and will be globally launched towards the first half of next year. However, in India, it is expected to make way only by the end of 2015 or beginning of 2016.
Along with the S101, the S102 will be the first cars coming from the Mahindra-Ssangyong joint partnership. The S102, according to earlier reports, will be a more premium product than S101 and is expected to be a 5 seater with reasonable amount of rough road performance. The compact SUV might also come equipped with the new automatic transmission that both the companies are jointly producing.
Another noteworthy development is S103; believed to be a crossover or an MPV. The car, when launched, will take on the soon-to-be-launched Honda Mobilio and current champion Suzuki Ertiga.
Mahindra’s 1L Turbocharged Petrol Engine
The partnership is also believed to be developing a turbocharged direct injection 1.0 liter petrol engine with variable valve timing. Pawan Goenka, ED and President of Mahindra confirmed that the partnership is developing a range of 6 different engines. The new compact SUV is expected to have a small capacity engine with turbocharger designed for higher output as well as better mileage, similar to the 1.0L EcoBoost we have known and driven so far.
So, its a lot happening at Mahindra and we are really keen on the development of this turbocharged petrol motor from the company.

I have been waiting since January 2014 for mahindra’s upcoming SUV s101 and S102 so that i can sell my old wagon R and can buy this new compact SUV but still no news. Atleast please confirm the date of launching.
It has always been said, they are NOT coming anytime soon. Expect their launches sometime next year…
