March 2012 Sales: TATA Motors Registers 20 Percent Growth

TATA Motors, India’s third largest passenger car manufacturer, had a great month of March this year as it reported a 20 percent increase in its total vehicle sales. Total sales stood at 100,414 units whereas the same figure last March (2011) was 83,363 units.

Passenger Vehicles in domestic market rose 34 percent at 36,984 units in March 2012 which were 27,678 in the same period last year. Company’s smallest car Nano registered a 20 percent hike in sales and stood up at 10,475 units. Last March (2011) Nano’s sales were 8707 units. Gradually, Nano is getting consistent with its sales.

The Indica (which includes Vista) range registered an impressive gain of 65 percent where it sold 11,420 units and Indigo (which includes Manza) series registered sales of 8295 units, 15 percent more than last March. Company’s utility vehicles Aria, Sumo and Safari recorded monthly sales of 6794 units, a growth of 40 percent.

TATA also registered 58063 units of its commercial vehicles. However, exports declined by 10 percent to 5367 units compared to last March’s 5932 units.

In the Month-on-Month view, TATA clocked 9 percent growth. Nano had a big gain with 14 percent growth; Indica range also clocked 10 percent growth whereas the UV’s (Aria + Sumo + Safari) clocked a 24 percent hike. However, Indigo range reported a 3.5 percent decline.
