Maruti Introduces Driver Airbag in Alto from Base Variant; Gets Left ORVM Too!

Driver airbag on offer on all variants of Alto 800 & Alto K10

No matter if they have been provoked or they are doing it to counter competition – we like it when the market leader starts paying heed towards safety.

Maruti Suzuki in its latest safety drive has introduced optional driver airbag on their best selling hatchback, Alto, right from the base variant onwards. This includes both the variants, Alto 800 and Alto K10. This move comes after the company introduced dual front airbags, ABS and EBD as an optional extra in all the variants of the Ciaz, Ertiga, Dzire, WagonR and Celerio. They are already offering the same as standard in all the variants of the S-Cross and Baleno.

The Alto 800 and Alto K10 together amount to an average monthly sale of 20,000-25,000 units. Imagine even if 50 percent of buyers start opting for the optional slightly premium sub-variants with airbags, a lot of lives may be saved.

Alto has been the country’s largest selling car for more than a decade in a row! Total sales have crossed 29 lakh units in India thanks to its affordable price tag and high fuel efficiency rating. The introduction of Auto Gear Shift has further boosted the car’s popularity.

Here’s what Mr RS Kalsi, executive director, Marketing & Sales had to say on the occasion:

“With driver airbag being offered from the base variant upward as an option for the Alto, a very large number of car customers in India will feel reassured. We have offered enhanced safety features, from the base variants, across our model range, ahead of regulations.”
