Maruti to Produce Baleno and Next Gen Dzire at Upcoming Gujarat Plant

Maruti is one of the most recognised brands in the country. The Baleno and Dzire are one of its best selling products and they are set to get a new home. The premium hatchback Baleno is at present manufactured at the Manesar plant. As per a report in Autocar Professional both the Baleno and the eagerly anticipated Swift Dzire update will be manufactured at Suzuki’s upcoming Gujarat facility.

The report adds that the company aims to produce around 85,000 units to begin with in 2017. Of these half will be diesel powered. They might shift bulk of the production round up to Gujarat to free the Gurgaon-Manesar assembly lines. The company aims to export nearly 70,000 units every year and Gujarat’s proximity to the ports will be an added benefit.

The other car of the Maruti line-up, the compact sedan Dzire, will also be assembled at the Gujarat plant from 2018. This will be after the next generation Swift hatchback is retailed sometime next year. The Dzire is not just the most selling compact sedan in the country but has often beaten the largest selling car, the Alto. Of late though, its thunder has been stolen by the aggressive pricing of the Baleno.

The Gujarat plant is on schedule and is expected to commence operations by February 2016.
