Maruti’s Manesar Plant Continues to Remain Shut,Swift/Dzire Backlog Crosses 1.2 Lac

Twelve days after the violence at the Manesar plant in which one senior executive was killed and 100 others were injured, Maruti Suzuki says that the operations at the Manesar plant will remain close as the company is concerned for its employees safety. The Gurgaon plant is functional.

A special investigation team (SIT), headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravinder Tomar is probing the incident, So far around 100 workers have been arrested, the main culprits yet to be arrested.

The company has formed a team of 25 members from different departments to take care of the injured employees who are receiving medical attention and will take a while to recover. The Manesar lockout has caused Swift and DZire to go out of stock. The company however has not stopped the booking and the order backlog has crossed 1.2 lakh.

On the other hand, component suppliers also get affected by MSI’s lockout and have decided to cut down the production and are also planning laying off contract labourers.
