Mitsubishi Officially Confirms & Teases Ertiga Rivaling MPV

Mitsubishi has started working on a new MPV which will be targeted directly at the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Honda Mobilio. As per Autocar Indonesia, the MPV is under development and is expected to start series production in August 2017. The company has released the first teaser of the upcoming MPV and it does remind us a lot of the Concept AR showcased at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show.

The Concept AR, which the company likes to call as Active Runabout, is a next generation compact MPV which aims to offer both the mobility of an SUV and the interior space of an MPV. The concept model was showcased with a lightweight mild hybrid system which includes a downsized 1.1-liter direct injection turbocharged MIVEC engine.

The production variant though is expected to be housing a 1.5 litre petrol mill. The report further states that the finished product will flaunt a sporty and tough presence on the outside, but at the same time the interiors will be spacious enough to fit 7 people comfortably.

The company is in a revival process in India. They intend to diversify their product offering here and have plans to launch the Delica MPV and Attrage sedan. They also intend to bring back the Outlander, this time with a diesel engine. How much of this materializes remains to be seen…
