One of our avid reader has shared spy pics of the upcoming Jeep Wrangler in India. Jeep has been testing both its Wrangler as well as the Grand Cherokee for a slugfest in our market.

These pics come right from Hadapsar in Pune where Jeep’s and Fiat’s test mules are pretty frequent. Caught during the wee hours of maddening office traffic of Magarpatta, these spyshots contain both the 2-door and 4-door versions of the aspirational SUV.

The grey mule you see here is the better looking 2-door Wrangler whereas the black mule is the regular longer 4-door version. In its official presentation, Jeep revealed that it will be the 4-door Wrangler that will come to India, and hence spotting of the 2-door is a little confusing. This might mean that the company may also be mulling over launching the sportier 2-door in India.

Jeep will mark its foray in India with the launch of the Wrangler as well as the flagship Grand Cherokee. Jeep Wrangler will get a 3.6L V6 petrol engine that pumps out 285hp of power output and  a massive 353Nm of torque. For the diesel aficionados, Wrangler will come with a 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine which pumps out 197hp of power output and mammoth 451Nm of torque.

On the other hand, Grand Cherokee will share the 3.6L V6 Petrol motor with Wrangler. It will get a more powerful 3.0L V6 diesel engine which produces 240hp of power and a ground breaking 570Nm of torque.

Apart from these, Jeep has plans for as many as 6 other launches in India which includes a B-segment SUV as well. You can Check complete list here.

For all the SUV lovers, your real machines are coming to you soon. However, be prepared to shell out more than the deserving prices for these Jeeps. The reason is plain and simple – CBU! Jeep will initially launch these as CBUs (Completely Built Units), hence attracting very high excise duties.
