BMW to Launch New X5 in India Next Month: Bookings Open

New BMW X5 is reportedly getting ready to be launched in India, with Autocar predicting an end May 2014 showdown. The New X5 is to be locally produced in India at BMW’s Chennai plant from the third quarter of 2014.

BMW claims that the new X5 has a powerful design, spacious and luxurious interiors aiming to give the ultimate experience of versatile driving pleasure and at the same time be efficient. In all the new X5 is meant to be a complete all-round package fully equipped to meet the demanding driving conditions.

The new X5 will be fitted with the X-Drive, which is an intelligent all-wheel drive system which monitors the driving condition constantly and distributes the power as and when required to the front and rear axles.

The new generation of the X5 is larger than its previous iteration and will be powered by a 3.0L six cylinder diesel mill producing 261PS of power and 540Nm of maximum torque. This is the same engine which powers the present generation 530d and 730d. The SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle, as BMW likes to classify the X5 as) will be available in both five seater and seven seater trims.

The company had earlier axed the previous generation of X5 last year because of diminishing sales. Hopefully the new version with its extra row of seats will be the game changer for the company. BMW is expected to price the new X5 at around 70 to 75 Lacs ex-showroom.
