New C-Class With Diesel Engine Launched for Rs 39.90 Lakhs

Mercedes Benz India has just launched the new C Class with a diesel heart in Pune for a starting price tag of Rs 39.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). They have also commenced the local assembly of the petrol version, which was launched in November 2014 but it continues to carry the same price tag of Rs 40.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The new C Class gets the new lightweight modular rear-drive MRA (Mercedes Rear-Drive Architecture) platform and carries a lot of design features from the previous version. The car gets a new LED studded head lamps console with Intelligent Light System. The tail lamp console gets a modern twin torch effect layout with all light functions using LEDs. The car also incorporates the fog lamps in the rear tail lamp cluster.

Engine:

The C 220 CDI gets an inline four cylinder engine displacing 2,143 cc. It produces 125 PS of maximum power in the range of 3,000 to 4,200 rpm and best in segment 400 Nm of torque in the range of 1,400 to 2,800 rpm. The car can hit the ton in 7.4 second and has a top whack of 233 kmph.

It also boasts of a segment leading fuel efficiency figure of 19.27 kmpl. Add to that a huge 66 L fuel tank and you have a mile cruncher which will be comfortable with long highway runs. It gets an Eco Start/Stop function which helps in saving fuel and reducing the overall emissions. It also gets a Drive mode selector called as ‘Agility Select’ via which you can select through 5 different driving modes – Comfort, Economy, Sport, Sport + and Individual

Price & Variants:

The new Mercedes C Class diesel version comes in two variants and here are their respective prices ex-showroom :

  • Mercedes Benz C 220 CDI Style: Rs 39.90 lakhs
  • Mercedes Benz C 220 CDI Avantgarde: Rs 42.90 lakhs

The C 220 CDI is equipped with the tried and tested 7G Tronic plus transmission. It also gets a high ground clearance and a suspension setup specifically designed for Indian road conditions. The long 2,840 mm long wheelbase also helps in making the car a better handler without compromising on comfort. It also offers more legroom for the rear passengers.
