Official: Honda’s Top Boss Confirms New Accord for India Next Year

Honda will re-launch its Accord sedan in India next year according to a report on Financialexpress.com. The news portal has quoted Jnaneswar Sen, Senior VP, Marketing & Sales for Honda Cars India, as having said thatthe company has full intent of getting the Accord back in its portfolio and it expects to bring the current version sold overseas to come to India next fiscal’ – he did not say ‘by’ next fiscal or ‘in’ next fiscal…

It’s also said that Honda will get the diesel CR-V and a new small car to India in 2017 while a compact SUV in 2016 will be preceded by the new Jazz next year. Honda had discontinued the Accord last year due to lacklustre sales and Honda is realistic enough to understand that the new car might not become a best-seller overnight but will certainly reinforce Honda’s image in India as a premium car manufacturer, which in turn would raise the aspirational value of the ‘H’ badge, thereby aiding the sales of entry-level Hondas further.

The Accord was Honda’s flagship sedan in India until last year and it came with a choice of two petrol engines – an inline four-cylinder 2.4-litre unit and a 3.5-litre V6. The former was available with either a five-speed manual or a five-speed auto ‘box while the latter could only be had with an automatic transmission. The ex-showroom prices for the Accord started at somewhere around INR 20 lakh and went up to INR 28 lakh. You may check this link which contains details on the 2015 model…

The Indian arm of the Japanese major already has two manufacturing units, one in Greater Noida and the other in Tapukara (Rajasthan), while land for the third one has just been acquired in Gujarat. Honda also has more land at Tapukara to start a second assembly line there too. So, all you Accord fans out there..I am sure this would have brought some smile on your faces 🙂
