New Honda City Diesel is India’s Most Fuel Efficient Car; Launch on 9th Jan?

Numerous prospective car buyers would be waiting impatiently for the information and details of the new 2014 Honda City. The most awaited bit of the new car is the i-DTEC diesel engine, which promises to provide best-in-class fuel-efficiency figures. After the roaring success of the diesel Honda Amaze, the introduction of a diesel powerplant option on the Honda City is  a masterstroke!

Honda Car India Limited has let out the official FE figures and the diesel engine will provide an astonishing fuel-efficiency of 26 kmpl which makes it the most fuel efficient car in the country only overtaking its sibling, Amaze!

The 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine, on the other hand, will be available with two transmission options. One of them will be a 5-Speed manual gearbox, while the other one will be a 7-speed CVT with paddle shifters. Though Honda has claimed that the Petrol CVT version will offer the best fuel-efficiency amongst all automatics in the Indian market (18 kmpl to be precise) , they haven’t provided any idea about the fuel-efficiency figures of the 1.5L petrol engine equipped with the 5-Speed manual tranny.

Okay Enough of This; When Does the New City Launch?

It is being said that the probable launch date of the all-new Honda City is 9th January, 2014 according to Cartoq.com. It is then and there, that the pricing details and the variant-wise break-up will be revealed. The new Honda City is expected to carry a slight premium as compared to the outgoing version, banking on the hype of a ‘new’ model.

However, we do not see a huge price difference for the diesel City considering its drab power/torque figures.

Some of the features on the new Honda City are :

  • Touch-screen based Climate Control System
  • Reverse Camera with 3-viewing angles
  • Push-Button Start
  • Keyless Entry

The new Honda City has already started reaching dealerships and we were the first ones to share its spyshots on the web. Check them out here.
