SPIED: Hyundai’s Midsize Sedan Between Elantra and Sonata Caught Testing in China

China is one of the most important automotive markets all over the world and such is the importance that instead of getting the global products, the China often gets China-Specific models.

As a matter of fact, even the luxury car makers ensure that the China specific models get the extended wheelbase versions considering Chinese love towards more spacious cars.

These are the spy shots of a mid-size sedan being developed by Hyundai from China. The name of the car remains a mystery as of now but this will sit between the Elantra and the Sonata and create a new segment altogether  The car is expected to come in China at a price tag of around 140,000 yuan to 180,000 yuan (~Rs. 12 – 15.3 Lakhs). It will be manufactured in China by the Beijing-Hyundai JV which also produces the Elantra and Sonata.

According to the reports from the Chinese media, it will be showcased at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show but considering the readiness of the test mule, we can expect the car to be showcased as early as the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. The car will have 1.8-Liter and 2.0-Liter 4 cylinder petrol hearts and we can safely expect the 1.6-Liter diesel to make its way to the car if it manages to reach the Indian shores. Seeing that Indians have developed a liking for the fluidic philosophy, we hope Hyundai considers it for India as well.
