New ‘Star’ Ratings To Become Mandatory For Fuel Efficiency

The way, all your newly purchased electrical household items such as Refrigerators, Air Conditioners, Televisions etc. bear a sticker displaying the ‘Stars’ ratings displaying the power consumption efficiency, the new cars will bear the same to show how fuel efficient the product is. Even though the new standards will be in effect only in 2015 but the car manufacturers will have to start the ‘sticker job’ from April 2012 and along with the stickers they will also have to mention the true mileage.

Also, the companies will have to tell the customer a comparative chart showing the mileage of other competing cars of the segment so that customer can decide himself what car to buy, sources said.

They also told that for past 4 years these ‘new’ standards were stuck and recently P. M. O. (Prime Minister’s Office) has sent a green signal to B. E. E. (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) to make these standards mandatory.

The Director General of SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) told that industry has been waiting for these new standards and all the manufacturers will have to work very hard to prepare themselves.
