Volkswagen India has launched the 21st Century Beetle in India at Rs 28.73 lakhs ex-showroom Mumbai. The car will be available only at select Volkswagen dealerships and the company claims that it gets improved suspension and handling dynamics.
New Beetle Engine
Beetle is powered by a 1.4 litre turbocharged direct injection petrol mill which produces 150 PS of maximum power in the range of 5,000 to 6,000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque peaking between 1,500-3,500 rpm. Mated with the familiar 7 speed DSG transmission, the car claims to return a fuel efficiency of 17.68 kmpl (ARAI figure). It also gets a start/stop system with regenerative braking.
Beetle measures 4,278 mm in length, 1,808 mm in width and 1,486 mm in terms of height. The wheelbase is 2,524 mm wide and the fuel tank can hold 55 litres of fuel. The new Beetle is just 136 mm off ground and safety features include driver and front airbags with combined curtain and side airbags, ESC, ABS and ASR. It also gets interesting brake pad wear indicators for all the four disc brakes.
