New Volvo XC90 Launched in India at 64.9 Lacs; Deliveries from September

At an event in Mumbai, Volvo has officially unveiled and launched their XC90 SUV in India. With the new XC90 Volvo says they are re-launching their brand in India with a new face.  Called as one of the safest SUVs in the world, the new XC 90 has some premium safety features which have so far been dreamt of only in science fiction movies.

The company sees the new XC 90 as a significant step forward in their goal to reduce fatalities to zero in Volvo cars by 2020. The SUV features the first ever run-off protection which will save the occupants in case the vehicle goes off-track and enters a ditch!

It also gets the first ever auto brake feature at intersections although this feature is not making its way to India yet. As this feature requires the use of a radar system (and an array of cameras), the Ministry of Defence has not given permission to allow the use of this technology, under the pretext of national security. The company is actively lobbying with the concerned authorities and is trying to get the required permission and once that is done the feature can be activated in an instant.

Volvo XC90 Excellence

The new XC 90 features a 2.0 litre four cylinder Drive-E twin turbo charged diesel engine which is good for churning out 225 horses at 4,250 rpm and 470 Nm of peak torque in the range of 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and AWD.
