The Corolla story is a long and distinguished one. Toyota decided that it wanted its own version of a people’s car and the Corolla was the result. The first generation Corolla rolled out in 1966 and the latest version that we saw at the Expo is the 11th generation of the sedan. It is one of the largest selling cars in the world.

Some of the news in the new-gen Corolla Altis go like this:

  • Push start/stop button
  • Smart entry
  • Rain sensor
  • Paddle shift
  • Rear reading lamp
  • Rear power socket
  • New generation 7 inch touch screen
  • One button operation and voice command capable audio ( with USB, Bluetooth, navigation, back camera and mirror link)

The 2014 version also comes with increased rear seat leg room; by approx 100 mm, the steering angle gets enhanced by a couple of degrees, and the vertical adjustment of the driver seat can be manoeuvred up to 60mm instead of the previous 45mm.

Power comes from the 140 PS (138.1 bhp) 1798cc petrol with dual VVT-i and this is where we suggest you to stop reading.

Unfortunately, by some Toyota logic, a D-Segment sedan in India can still do with an extremely impotent and underpowered 1.4L diesel engine! Yes, according to all what we know, the first-ever young looking New-Gen Corolla Altis will continue with the same 1.4L D-4D diesel engine which pumps out 88.4 PS of power from the 1364cc mill. It comes with variable nozzle turbo and intercooler.

The petrol comes with Super CVT-i with 7 Speed Sequential Shiftmatic, or 6-speed manual, whereas the diesel is 6-speed manual only. So, if you want a good looking, robust, extremely slow car, here it is coming right to your nearest Toyota dealer.
