Next-Gen Swift & YRA to Get Turbocharged 1.0 L Boosterjet Petrol Engines

Suzuki is now going turbocharged! According to Autocar, they have announced that their next-generation Swift, which is a massive seller in India and the upcoming premium hatchback codenamed as YRA, will come sporting the new 1.0 liter Boosterjet petrol engines.

The catch however, is that the company has announced this for international markets and there has been no confirmation if India is included in the list at the moment. This 1.0 liter turbocharged motor also has company in the form of a bigger 1.4 liter engine however power and torque figures are not known at the moment.

YRA is Suzuki’s premium hatchback which will sit over Swift internationally as well as in our country and will go on sale sometime later this year or possibly next year. According to some leaked information by a Suzuki official, YRA will have a bigger boot, more space and it will be about 90 kilograms lighter than the current Swift. It is also revealed that it will not be as sporty as Swift but Suzuki wants to make it more comfortable and premium.

Even if this turbocharged motor doesn’t make its way onto our shores immediately upon YRA’s launch, we believe it will be introduced at some point of time considering the increasing usage of turbocharged engines from rivals.

We do not see a choice with Maruti Suzuki currently and hence, the 1.3 liter Fiat sourced DDIS diesel engine may continue to do duty on both the cars in question here. Next-Gen Swift is expected to launch sometime in 2017!
