Baby SUV=Baby Engine: Porsche Officially Confirms Smallest 2.0L Engine for Macan

Porsche, whenever I hear this word somewhere, the first thing that comes to my mind is elegance and speed! The legendary 911s!!! Who can forget the 6 minute 11.13 second record of the infamous Ring in a Porsche 956 (that too way back in 1983)?

So, when Porsche decided to get into the SUV business with the Cayenne I was pleasantly surprised, okay I was shocked!! But yeah another shocker came with Porsche’s first four-door Gran Turismo, Panamera. With the rise of compact crossover SUVs my whole belief system took a jolt with the birth of Macan. But one thing continues to be the binding factor in all these shockers: SPEED.

The Macan, as we have talked earlier, will be a premium offering from Porsche. Okay time for another shocker, the 2.0L engine option which was just a rumoured has now been confirmed. This would be the first four pot motor from the Stuttgart based company in a span of nearly two decades. This is believed to be the same engine which does duties in the European Skoda Octavia, tuned a bit more to gel with the Porsche badging.

The 1984cc turbo charged petrol unit will produce 240PS of power at 5,000 to 6,800rpm and 350Nm of peak torque between 1,500 to 4,500rpm. It claims of a top speed of 223kph and hits a ton in just 6.9second. Mighty fast for an SUV!

The company has not revealed any prices or release date yet. Although they have put up a disclaimer saying that this variant will be made only on special order and those who want more details should contact their nearest Porsche centre. To give an idea, the Macan S and the Macan S Diesel is priced at £43,300 (44.21lac rupees) and the Macan Turbo is for £59,300 (60.55lac rupees).

With reports of Porsche launching the Macan in India in June, this 2.0L engine, if offered, will be an interesting preposition. However, expected prices of near a crore of Indian rupees, we doubt if Porsche would offer it here.
