Renault Kwid 1.0 litre Version Launching this Month!

Renault India has confirmed that the car maker will be launching the 1.0 litre version of the Kwid this month. The French manufacturer is aiming for a 5 per cent market share by the end of the year. Ever since the launch of the cross-hatchback Kwid, the company has already sold more than 75,000 units of the car.

While the 800 cc version takes care of the smaller Altos, the bigger 1.0 litre version will help it take on the Alto 1.0 litre and Eon 1.0 litre. A report in Hindu Business Line reveals that unlike a festive season launch, Renault will be bringing it this very month. While they did showcase the car at the Auto Expo, the output figures have been kept a secret. They also showcased an AMT version which is expected to be available only in the bigger engined version.

Here’s what Mr Sumit Sawhney, Renault India, CEO and Managing Director, had to say:

“The Kwid has been widely accepted in the Indian market and we are ready to enhance our offering under the model range by launching a 1-litre engine version this month,With the launch of the 1-litre Kwid, we will be further enhancing our offering in the segment and serve customers who are looking for a more powerful vehicle in the entry level segment.”

The folks at Renault have been known to price their products very competitively. In fact, they pulled off a fast one when the Kwid was first launched. Can they do this again with the Kwid 1.0 litre when the Alto K10 is so competitively priced?
