And if you thought its over with Renault, its not! They had promised 5 products to be launched in India and the recently launched, amidst a lot of fanfare, compact SUV Duster was its forth offering in India.
They still have 1 more product planned for this year and they plan to launch it here by Diwali. Not much is known about what Renault would be bringing in to the market, but from the teaser pictures, the ‘still-under-the-veils’ car looks like a mid-sized sedan. This development was confirmed by Renault India’s Managing Director Marc Nassif. He said that the last of the 5 promised products would be launched “certainly before Diwali”.
There is no other information about the car. However, it seems that it might be the Renault Scala that might be ‘that’ fifth car. Scala is a rebadged version of Nissan Sunny.
At the launch of Duster, Renault also informed that the company has reached 60% localisation and has plans to reach 80% on its products.
Currently, Renault sells Pulse in the hatchback segment, Fluence in the mid-sized sedan segment, Koleos in the premium SUV segment and the new Duster in the compact SUV segment. That leaves us with the C-segment sedan where Renault doesn’t operate currently and this also makes it a little clear that by Scala, they would want to plug this gap.
Renault is also working on its sales and service network and has aggressive plans to have 100 outlets in the country very soon.
