S101 Spied with Production Ready Tail Lamps; Comparo Pic With Xylo

It’s going to rain compact SUVs in the Indian car market. As the trend started by sub 4 meter compact sedan continues to sell like hot cakes, the compact SUV territory ignited by the Ford EcoSport is the next big thing.

This segment may further get sub-divided into mini-SUVs and micro-SUVs like the Mahindra’s S101. Here are the latest spy pics of S101 with production ready body parts, clicked by our reader Austin.

The car continues to draw heavily from the XUV 500 and may end up using a similar name as well (something like XUV300). The dummy tail lamps, which the car had so far been seen carrying, have been replaced with production ready ones which, as one of the pic hints, may come fitted with LEDs.

The huge doors are contrasted with rather small windows but the S101 rather manages to have a smart profile. The overall height of the car is surprisingly low. One look at it next to the Xylo gives us a very good idea how short its profile is going to be. In fact our reader mistook it to be a hatchback at first!

The presence of steel wheels means that this test unit is possibly a lower variant. The black wheel caps though are snazzy matte black coloured and Mahindra may use similar design alloy wheels on higher variants. The huge gap between the wheel arch and the tyre though is an eye sore and we hope at least the higher models use larger tyres.

The A and B pillars appear to have been blackened and despite the smaller height, S101 manages to have a decent headroom for the driver driving this test mule.

Mahindra is expected to launch the S101 (and possibly its higher derivative S102) sometime this year.
