Ford EcoSport is back in the news again, but this time for a scary reason! An EcoSport has suffered an axle breakage which has reportedly resulted in the collapse of the front end of the car. Here is what we come to know through Team-BHP.
On October 31, 2015, Poornima Krishnan was on her way from Bangalore to Sringeri in her new EcoSport. The journey of nearly 330 km usually takes 6 hours to complete under normal circumstances. Little did Poornima know that the drive was not going to be as comfortable as she wished it to be!
The Titanium trim Diamond White EcoSport was delivered on October 14, 2015 and carried the 1.5 litre petrol mill mated with a six speed dual clutch automatic transmission. According to the report, the front axle of the car ‘automatically’ broke off which caused the front end of the car to collapse. The force generated was so great that even the alloy wheel developed a major cleft and got dislocated!
Thankfully no one was injured in the incident. The car was taken to a Ford workshop in Mangalore and they in turn supplied an estimate of whopping Rs 3.37 lakhs for repairs!
Now, whatever you see here is the version from the owner. We can not verify the veracity of the claim but a big question mark to us is – how can an axle break off just like that without a collision? The wheel is also held by the suspension and there would have been feel-able wobbles prior to the unfortunate accident.
We are not sure what has happened here but coincidentally, just a couple of days back Ford India recalled over 16,000 EcoSports for changing the rear twist beam…!

On November 08, 2020, my self was on the way from Vadodara to Prayagraj in EcoSport S 2019 Model. The journey of nearly 1260 km usually takes 23 hours to complete under normal circumstances. After running near about 94 km from Vadodara, I crossed one speed breaker and taken left turn with speed of 30 Km/h, suddenly major sound appears from engine and immediately I stopped my Car and taken help from RSA.
After visiting service center, I came to know due to jerk, engine belt and AXLE boot broken off.
Big question mark to us is – how can an Engine belt and axle boot break off just like that without a collision? The wheel is also held by the suspension and there would have been feel-able wobbles prior to the unfortunate accident.
