Hours after rumours of a possible hybrid variant of the Scorpio leaked on the world wide web, Mahindra has officially launched the Scorpio Intelli Hybrid. It has been priced at Rs 12.84 lakhs (ex-showroom, Navi Mumbai), for the S10 two-wheel drive trim, and is the only SUV in the country with mild hybrid technology.
Mechanically the SUV remains the same. It is available only in the 2.2 litre version. The power output of 120 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque in the range of 1,800 to 2,800 rpm remains the same. While four wheel drive options are available along with Intelli Hybrid, transmission option just includes the manual gearbox.
Intelli Hybrid technology reduces fuel consumption by up to 7 per cent by helping the engine with electric power during acceleration, pretty much the same way we have seen in the Ciaz SHVS and Ertiga SHVS. The micro hybrid system, like before, will automatically switch the engine off when the vehicle is stationary. You even get brake energy regeneration, which would otherwise be wasted, to charge the battery.
The Scorpio Intelli Hybrid will be limited to the following variants:

- S4+
- S4+ 4WD
- S6+
- S8
- S10 2WD manual
- S10 4WD manual
We also expect this technology will trickle down to the NCR only 1.99 litre version in the near future.
